CCDA Young Leaders
Positive Lockdown Stories – Opportunities for Young Leaders
In order to extend their work with young people, over the past 12 months, Cirencester Creative Dance Academy have been working hard to become an Approved Qualification Centre for SLQ Dance and Sports Leadership. With this now in place, their aim is to support more young people to enable them to realise their potential, through positive leadership qualifications and awards, delivered by qualified and experienced staff. These leadership qualifications are a great way to promote young people’s self-confidence and self-esteem through both Dance and/or Sport and are nationally recognised, meaning young people are able to add them to their CV for their future journey.
Kate Young, Cheerleading Coach for CCDA, has worked with many young people over the past 20 years and feels that this year in particular has had added challenges. Recognising the importance of finding new opportunities for our young people, and enable them to learn new skills and gain confidence, is at the heart of this project. It is the hope of CCDA Principal, Katherine Lucy Bates, that these positive courses will not only support young people’s mental health, but will also feed back into the community, as part of the courses includes voluntary work.
CCDA have also been successful in gaining full funding from ‘We Can Move’, Gloucestershire to offer their first course to 12 young people. It is the hope that this project will continue to grow, with the opportunity for both long and short courses for more young people in the local area.
There are a couple of fully funded places still available on the first course, so If this is something that you feel may be of interest to a young person in your life, please contact us for more information
