Adri received her initial ballet training in her native South Africa, and graduated from the University of Cape Town in 1997 with a Dance Teacher’s Diploma. In her final year she also gained the Royal Academy of Dance Teaching Certification, and successfully auditioned for Cape Town City Ballet, joining the company full-time in 1998. She danced corps de ballet, solo and soubrette roles in many of the great classical ballets as well as more modern works such as David Nixon’s Beauty and the Beast and Veronica Paeper’s Carmen.
In 2002 Adri left the company to broaden her horizons as a freelance dancer in more commercial musical theatre works such as Carmen Jones. She also decided to pursue a teaching career, working within disadvantaged communities in the Western Cape to bring dance to a wider audience.
In 2004 Adri emigrated to the UK due to the uncertain political climate in South Africa. Since then she has gained vast teaching experience, working with various Dance Schools in Suffolk and Cambridge and also teaching for Dance East from 2006 to 2015. She has taught for the Royal Ballet School on their Partnership and Access Programme, and for DanceEast’s CAT scheme. Her teaching experience includes all age groups and abilities from Tots to Adults, and she has choreographed for numerous shows and festivals, using her background as a professional dancer with great success.
In 2005 Adri returned to South Africa to qualify as a Solo Latin Dance teacher and she currently teaches Adult Solo Latin classes and Adult Ballet at CCDA.
